Waukesha Catholic Track
2011 Track Season
The 2011 Waukesha Catholic track & field season is underway. This year our athletes will be competing in nine different meets - three indoor meets, two dual meets, a relay meet and three large invitational meets. It promises to be an exciting and - with your help - a successful season.
An overview of the 2011 season is available below. We are always looking for parents willing to help with coaching or to act as team parents. If you can help, please contact Jim Mathie at (262) 521-1567. (We can always use additional help at any grade level. Please consider coaching track. It is a unique and rewarding coaching experience. Even if you don't coach, there are great opportunities to help out at meets.)
Attached to the overview you will find a meet availability sheet. As in past years we ask that you complete and return the meet availability sheet so that the coaches may schedule your athlete(s) for the appropriate meets and events. Please make sure to include an e-mail address. We will again be using e-mail and this web site as our primary means of communication.

St. Matthias UWM Indoor Meet
While our 8th graders are at Pius XI High School on April 9th, the rest of our team will be competing at UWM. For the second year our 5th through 7th grade teams will compete in the St. Matthias UWM Indoor Meet. Last year the then 5th grade girls and 6th grade boys won their divisions and will look to repeat this year. Our 7th grade boys also won their division. They will be moving on to try and win the Pius XI 8th Grade Indoor Track Championship. Come on down and cheer on our teams!

Waukesha Catholic Indoor Track Meet
The Waukesha Catholic Indoor Track Meet was a great success again this year. St. Dominic took home the trophy as the All-Grade Relay champion.
Waukesha Catholic's Joe Novak had a spectacular performance in the eighth grade mile running a 4:57.66. It is the first time that a Waukesha Catholic athlete has broken the 5:00 barrier for a mile or 1600 meter run. Congratulate Joe when you see him.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to making this a fun event for all who attended.
This "practice meet" allows young athletes to experience how a track meet runs. Unlike most meets, the older athletes run first, allowing the younger athletes to see their events before participating.
This meet also features the "All-Grade Relay" an eight-member relay with one member from each grade and gender. The race starts with a fifth grade girl, then fifth grade boy, then sixth grade girl and so on until concluding with an eighth grade boy runner. It is a truly exciting event!
St. Leonard Relay Meet
The St. Leonard Relay Meet scheduled for Saturday, April 30th, gives athletes an opportunity to participate in a wide range of relay events - even with field events. Typically, kids enjoy relays more than other events, so this meet, completely made up of relay events, is always fun.
Be aware that this meet - because it is typically the first outdoor meet - is notorious for cold and windy weather. Please make sure that your athlete has proper clothing against the weather.
This year Waukesha Catholic finished second overall. Results from the St. Leonard Relay Meet are available below.

This is always a fun and competitive meet. Waukesha Catholic has won the last couple of years but Holy Apostles leads in the series. Come out and see a meet that the kids love to run. A photograph of the traveling trophy - The Sword in the Stone - that we compete for is available below. Take a look. It's worth winning.

St. Dominic Invitational Meet
On May 6th and 7th we travel to Brookfield East High School for our first big invitational of the year, The St. Dominic Invitational. The signature event for this meet is the Coaches' Relay. Traditionally run as the first event on Saturday morning, it makes the coaches put their legs where their mouth is and try and take home the traveling Fleet Old Foot trophy. A photo of the trophy is available below. The Waukesha Catholic coaches are the current champions of this event. The kids love to watch their coaches run. You should come and see it too!

The signature event of this meet is the "Cross Country Mile" that is run through the neighborhood. Athletes run from the stadium, up through the St. Mary's parking lot, out around part of the block and then back into the stadium. It's a great event that actually gets kids begging to run the mile. Come and see it.
Run for the Gold Dual Meet
On Tuesday, May 17th the St. John Vianney Shamrocks retained the Pot of Gold Traveling Trophy (shown below) defeating Waukesha Catholic 411-377. The schools split 4-4 in divisions won.
